As a veteran festival goer its always exciting to experience newly created and revised line ups and Somersault did not disappoint.
A brand new festival from the people behind Lovebox and Wildernesss, Somersault tapped perfectly into the local Devon coast vibe and atmosphere. With headliners Ben Howard and Jack Johnson drawing in the biggest crowds of the weekend, the Jack Wills new music stage (which I had the pleasure of hosting) was the perfect platform for some of the most exciting names in music to perform. Sivu, Rae Morris and Shannon Saunders were just a few of the bands which thoroughly impressed.
It was one band in particular however who blew me away and that was two lads making a hell of a lot of noise in the shape of Smokin’ Durry’s. If you could pop a gnarly kings of leon with 60’s smoking rock n roll into a blender and mix it all together you’d get Smokin’ Durrys. Their first performance was so good they were asked to perform again the next day!
They’ll be in London on September 18th for a gig at Hoxton Underbelly so check em out if you fancy.
Highlights had to be the hidden disco which you had to find by walking over a wooden bridge and through a clearing in the forest, its also had an amazing disco ball hidden in the trees, and the Jack Wills after party which went off on the Sunday night.
Here are a couple of snaps from Somersault and a link to all the action over on the Jack Wills blog.
